School Protest April 8
What’s Happening?
Ossington Old Orchard PS and Dewson PS are organizing a peaceful protest April 8 from 8-8:30am on the sidewalk in front of our schools to raise awareness about the school boards’ appeal.
We encourage schools across the city to join us! Read a list of schools that would be affected if the appeal succeeds.
Who can participate?
Anyone can organize a protest, whether they are a parent or a member of the community. Invite friends, neighbours, parents and kids to show up at 8am with homemade signs and bang some pots and pans. Teachers can join as long as it doesn’t interfere with their work hours.
What about the Principal?
Principals can’t be involved, but as long as the protests are on the sidewalk (not on school property) and do not block the school entrance, they are allowed.
Make signs
Use paints or markers to make signs on cardboard or posterboard. Use a roll of kraft paper to make a banner. Use slogans like “Hands off our schools!” or “No Development on School Lands!”
Make Noise
Bring pots and pans & whistles and make some noise!
Stay on the Sidewalk
Stay on the sidewalk and don’t block entrances.
Contact us if you’d like a free sign to attach to a fence near your school
Spread the word
Let people know in group chats, community Facebook pages, resident associations, or go to the school yard and talk to parents.
